Rumi’s quote seems apt to describe my relationship to making art. Sometimes the pull is not strong enough to withstand the pull of other loves, but the draw resurfaces inevitably. It is a delight when we respond to the pull.
Another quote I really like is, “Art is not about thinking something up. It is about the opposite – getting something down.”
I’m a B.C. artist located on the Sunshine Coast who is always attracted to stretching or altering perspective, contrast, movement, energy, texture, touch, line. Other artists who are inspiring me currently include Anselm Kiefer, Alice Neel, Delia Brown, Jay DeFeo, Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, Gathie Falk.
